Hoeven Statement in President Trump’s Announced Golden Dome Defense Shield

Senator Met with General Guetlein Today, Highlighted North Dakota’s Contributions to the New System

WASHINGTON – Senator John Hoeven, a member of the Senate Defense Appropriations Committee, today issued the following statement after President Trump announced plans to build a Golden Dome missile defense shield. President Trump appointed General Michael Guetlein, Vice Chief of Space Operations, to lead the defense project.

“We appreciate President Trump’s commitment to national defense and this plan for a ‘Golden Dome’ missile defense shield to protect the United States. North Dakota will play an important role in this effort with our low-earth orbit satellite mission in Grand Forks, the early warning radar at Cavalier Space Force Station and hypersonic testing activities conducted by the Test Resource Management Center out of Grand Sky. I met today with General Guetlein, who will be leading the Golden Dome efforts, about these important missions happening in North Dakota. Given growing threats around the globe, I look forward to working with General Guetlein and the Trump administration to advance this and other projects important to our national defense.”
